Can I bake multiple dishes in the oven at once?
|
There shouldn’t really be any difference in cooking time or temperature. Your oven is supposed to keep the heat going at the temperature at which it is set. It is important whenever you are cooking however, to properly pre-heat the oven to experience best performance no matter how many dishes you place inside.
The cooking can get a little dicey when you place multiple items in terms of heating all items evenly, especially if some are starting cold. The more items you place in the oven, the harder it is for the air and heat to circulate in between the items. You may want to rotate and move dishes in between the cooking cycle to ensure that they are exposed to different heat.
There are many new ovens on the market that have the capacity and technology to accommodate multiple meals with guaranteed performance. Visit the cooking section to view our ovens.

Does hand-washing use more water and energy than the dishwasher?
|
The newer dishwashers (after 1994), especially the ENERGY STAR qualified models, are designed to use less water than conventional dishwashers. Less water means less energy spent to heat that water. Other energy-saving suggestions offered on the ENERGY STAR website include using the air-dry option or no-heat dry on your dishwasher. Avoiding the use of pre-rinse or rinse-hold cycles saves energy and water too. Finally, using the delay timer allows you the option of running the dishwasher during times when energy rates are lower.
Save a little “green” for you and for the planet! Browse through our selection of ENERGY STAR qualified appliances then visit your local BrandSource store for details on delivery, installation, extended warranty coverage and financing.

Ovens - Self Cleaning or Myself Cleaning?
|
Self cleaning ovens were invented to make our lives easier, but for this to work you need to remember to use this feature. All you need to do is remove the racks, lock the oven door, and flip the switch. Be sure to open some windows to ventilate the area, it can get quite stinky. You will need to scrub the oven racks with a steel wool pad and wipe up the residue with a damp cloth inside the oven after it has completely cooled down.
If you do not have a self cleaning oven, you can still get the cleaning done fairly easily. To clean your oven, follow these steps:
- Remove the oven racks from your oven and wash with a steel wool pad.
- Read your oven manual to see what product(s) are preferred. Follow the directions provided by the oven product; you do not want to cause any damage to your oven.
- Scrub the inside of the oven with rubber gloves and a scrubbing pad/sponge and let the product sit for a bit.
- Scrub off any remaining debris. Wipe and rinse the oven thoroughly; you do not want tonight’s dinner to taste like cleaner.
Whether self cleaning or not, visit our kitchen section to see what BrandSource has cooking in our ovens.

What's the definition of stainless steel?
|
It’s the most popular finish in kitchen appliances, but what do we really know about stainless steel?
The definition of stainless steel is “any of various steels alloyed with at least 10 percent chromium and sometimes containing other elements and that are resistant to corrosion or rusting associated with exposure to water and moist air.” Stainless steel is always made using chromium; it is chromium that makes the steel stainless. It also improves its resistance to corrosion.
This resistance to corrosion (and rust) is one of the reasons that stainless steel is so popular with appliance consumers. Stainless steel is easy to clean and although it isn’t stain-proof it does “stain less” than other steel. Chemicals, dirty and hard water can leave stains and spots on stainless steel.
Stainless Steel is not scratch or dent resistant but there are some manufacturers who have released products with special finishes which reduce or even prevent both.
What you may not know is that it is also an earth friendly material; unlike others, it can be melted down, recycled and made into something else. Stainless steel is very versatile and durable. If properly cared for, it can be used for years and remain stainless.

Why is my sister’s dishwasher superior to mine?
|
My sister simply loads the dishwasher without scraping or rinsing plates and her dishes always come out squeaky clean. P.S. We use identical detergent!
There are two main keys to selecting a dishwasher that will get dishes ‘squeaky clean’:
1) Get one that has a micro fine filter - they filter “all the water all the time”. This ensures that food has little chance of being re-deposited back onto the dishes.
2) Don’t overlook the importance of the spray holes on the washer arms since these are the primary source of “scrubbing” during a cycle. In general, the smaller the holes, the better the scrubbing action.
3) Always follow manufactures instructions on loading and detergent usage.
